Breyer Horse New Releases: Patriot

March 31, 2016

The word Patriot brings about a lot of different meanings for people, but one thing that seems universal is the pride that comes with that word. In honor of the 240th anniversary of Independence Day, a new decorator celebrates this momentous day with pride and honor!

The American Saddlebred is a breed with a long history of serving in the U.S. Military, so it is no surprise that the American Saddlebred mold would make the perfect horse to celebrate such a patriotic occasion. This beautiful model stands tall and proud with his long mane and tail flowing in the wind.

Patriot has been created in a unique clear plastic, something that has only been done for a handful of Breyers in the past. He is then adorned with the colors of the American flag, red, white and blue. His lovely deep blue body is accented with red points on his face and legs and his long flowing tail is mixed between white and blue. Finally, he is lightly dappled with white stars, giving him the perfect patriotic finale.

Don’t miss this special horse, not only is he unlike any that have come before him, but he is also very limited. So head on over to Golden Oak Stables before you miss your chance to add Patriot to your collection!

Breyer Horse Collecting: Where Do Your Horses Live?

March 28, 2016

Just like real horses, Breyer horse collectors struggle with where to keep their horses. With real horses, most horse owners only have a few horses at most to find a place for them to live, but Breyer horse collectors often have dozens, if not hundreds of horses to find places for.

It’s no secret that the first place most of us think of for a horse, real or model, to live is a stable. Breyer collectors have a whole wealth of barns to choose from for their models. Golden Oak Stables has barns from small to large, stablemate to traditional and everything in between. These realistic miniatures rival the real thing in many ways, and give you the perfect place to live out your horse fantasies.

Chances are, you have a few too many horses for several barns and need to find another way to herd their horses. Just like real horses, you can choose to put your horses in a paddock of sorts. An actual paddock with miniature fencing is of course an option, and is a fun way to display your horses!

Many collectors also choose display cases or bookshelves for a more orderly, but less realistic, look. Some collectors collections are so big that they can only have a small part of it on display at any one time.  No matter what your display style is, it is uniquely yours and as special as your collection!

So, where does your collection live?

Breyer Horse Collecting: The Breyer Rainbow

March 24, 2016

The Breyer rainbow is amazing to say the least, and just as varied as the rainbow of colors that real horses come in, plus more!

Many horses come in a few common colors that are varied with face and leg markings. Bay, chestnut and grey are the most common colors. From there, palomino, buckskin, dun and champagne come into the mix and make the rainbow beautiful and exciting! Breyer has created these colors beautifully and brings the entire rainbow to collectors!

From there, the rainbow expands to pintos and appaloosa markings! These white markings can be extensive or minimal and are just as random and unique as each horse. Pintos and appaloosas are bold, beautiful and desirable to both real horse and model horse lovers!

Breyer brings a unique touch to the rainbow that real horses don’t happen to have, decorators. These fantasy models are as creative as your imagine will take you and are individually unique additions to the Breyer rainbow. No one is like another!

What your rainbow of horses looks like is unique to each collection and you can probably see some trends in your collection. Maybe you have a lot of bay horses, or a bunch of appaloosas! Whatever you have, Golden Oak Stables is there to fill in the gaps with whatever your collection desires!

Breyer Horse Customizing: Where To Start

March 10, 2016

One of the more interesting aspects of Breyer collecting is all of the creative ways to get involved with collecting. Customizing your models is one of the oldest and most popular ways to explore your collection. Many collectors find that they have customized their horses before they even know what customizing is!

Any change you make to a model horse is considered customizing by most model horse collectors. This can be as simple as adding a new marking to the horse or as drastic as completely reshaping and resculpting it! Customizing can go as far as you want it to, the only limit is your imagination!

Most customizers start off with repainting their models in either acrylic or oil paint. Acrylic paint has the ease of a quick dry where oil paint has a longer dry time, and gives the artist more time to work with the paint. It’s all a personal preference. But before you start painting away, Breyer horses need to be properly sanded and prepped with a primer, or the paint won’t stick!

Customizers can also reposition their horses using heat and sculpting epoxies. These creations can take hundreds of hours of work! Some artists even find themselves making original sculptures, which is where Breyer artists are born!

Have you ever customized a Breyer? Golden Oak Stables is stocked with the Kits you need to get started. All that is waiting is your creative touch!

Breyer Horse New Releases: Carltonlima Emma

March 7, 2016

Breyer’s British Breeds series has been one of the most exciting additions to their lineup in many years. This series of native British horses showcases the exceptional and unique breeds that inhabit the British Isles. New for 2016, a famous British horse has made her way into Golden Oak Stables, and she’s just about as royal as they come!

Carltonlima Emma is a new sculpture sculpted by the beloved sculptor Kathleen Moody. This adorable Fell Pony is the newest addition to the British Breeds series and the first new mold to be introduced! Collectors have heard rumors for several years of a new pony that was on it’s way, and when the news came of its arrival, the excitement grew!

What collectors were most surprised by was the famous portrait chosen for this new mold, Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s favorite horse, Carltonlima Emma! This little Fell pony has become the Queen’s chosen mount in a stable full of top horses and has been photographed many times as the queen takes a leisurely ride.

She shows off the Fell Pony’s distinct black coat with a semi-glossy finish that is smooth and beautiful. Carltonlima Emma also sports the long mane and tail and full leg feathers that the breed is known for.

Bring a little royalty into your stable with this new famous mount. This is the first time the Fell Pony has joined the Breyer lineup, which is something to celebrate, royally!

Breyer Horse Collecting: Spring Cleaning

March 3, 2016

Winter may be going out like a lion for many, but spring is just around the corner and spring cleaning is on the minds of many! You may not think of your collection when it comes to spring cleaning, but it’s a wonderful time of the year to do a little collection care and make sure that your collection is in tip top shape year round!

If you have your models displayed, you’ll know all too well that dust is the collector’s enemy. There isn’t much that can help prevent this inevitable part of collecting. While the sun is starting to shine, let the sun in and take a look over just how dusty your models may have gotten over the winter. The good news is that a dusting with a soft cloth or a tepid bath with a little mild soap (original finish models only, no customs!), can get your models clean and show ready again.

While you have your models all pulled out its a great time to do a collection inventory. A simple list of your models is a great way to start and from there you can add details like where it was purchased, any show awards you’ve gotten or any other interesting information about the model that you might not want to forget. If you are planning a show for the year, tagging your model now is also a great idea, or completing any necessary touch ups.

A little maintenance can help your collection stay in tip top shape. So the next time a new model heads to you from Golden Oak Stables, they’ll fit in seamlessly to your beautiful collection!
