May 4, 2015

The first Saturday in May for 2015 brought a warm, sunny day to the bluegrass and with that brought out a field of horses to race for the roses and towards the finish line in what is the most exciting two minutes in sports. What would happen next would give horse lovers all over the world hope towards a history being made for the first time in decades!

A field of 18 horses made their way into the green starting gates on Saturday May 2nd 2015 all hoping to make racing history. Just like each year before it, these 18 horses all hoped to put their names in the record books as the winner of the Kentucky Derby and have a place in horse racing history. One of the most illustrious races in the world, the Kentucky Derby sets the tone for the rest of the horse racing year and paves the way for the horses that compete in it.

In that field of 18 horses, there were favorites, long shots and everything in between. Famous owners and trainers were abound and world class jockeys were atop each and every horse. With track conditions good, the race got off to a good start with favorites near the front. After a few strides, the favorite American Pharoah slipped into position next to Dortmund and Firing line. The three fought it out to the end, until the final stretch when American Pharoah pulled out to win by a length!

With such a strong performance, American Pharoah is already hearing chatter of a Triple Crown prospect, but until then, we won’t know! Stay tuned to Golden Oak Stables for all of the news on the road for the Triple Crown, and who knows, maybe we’ll see history this year!
